Ornate 15th-century stone stairway to the medieval library in the north transept of Rouen Cathedral. Built and rebuilt over a period of more than eight hundred years, from 1876 to 1880 it was briefly the tallest building in the world.
Rouen, on the River Seine in northern France is Prefecture of Normandy and once one of the largest and most prosperous cities of medieval Europe.
